Reinvention Carousel • Unlearn and Relearn Identity and Creativity

Ever feel like you're on a success / failure roller coaster? 🎢

Ever feel stuck on a fear / suffering merry-go-round? 🎠

Whether you're tweaking a tiny creative process or reinventing an entirely new identity / brand / career, you will face challenges. It's fact. Just because we have an adult body with a driver's license doesn't mean we won't struggle with learning and, most of all, unlearning. ⤵︎

4-Stages-Adult-Learning

Stage 1 • Unconscious Incompetence

We don't know that we don't know. We're not aware of our shadows or shortcomings. That's why ignorance is bliss.

Stage 2 • Conscious Incompetence

We become painfully aware of our shadows or shortcomings. "I suck at this!" (guilt) or "I suck!" (shame) are the general state of mind, along with discomfort rashes and anxiety/depression roller coaster.

Stage 3 • Conscious Competence

We gain an awareness of our achievement and growth, with a "Look ma, no hands!" type of satisfaction. The worst is over, phew. New learning may not be second nature yet, but we got this!

Stage 4 • Unconscious Competence

We integrated the learning and practice deep into our bones. We just know. We just are... to the point of forgetting and being blind to your genius and superpowers. "Doesn't everybody?!?" is the general frame of mind. No, millions even billions of people don't have the skill of empathy, insight, courage, creativity, etc. They need us to transmit our competence.

Theory vs. Reality

Hard, Harder, Hardest Hurdles

4-Stages-Adult-Learning-Hurdle-Hard

It’s hard smashing up against a brick wall, again and again, as you rise in consciousness and learn how to learn.

4-Stages-Adult-Learning-Hurdle-Harder

It's even harder to arrive at Stage 2 and be aware that you suck at what you're trying to learn. Facing the barrage of shame, guilt, grief, anxiety and/or depression as you crawl to competency is not for the faint at heart.

4-Stages-Adult-Learning-Hurdle-Hardest

The hardest hurdle is unlearning, making (Stage 4) who you are, talents plus warts and all, conscious to yourself again. It takes a spiritual warrior to shed maladaptive conditioning and relearn soul-lead ways of being.

4 Types of Knowing

Here are the 4 Stages of Adult Un/Relearning in relation to the 4 Types of Knowing.

Stage 1 • Unconscious Incompetence

The soul always knows, but in stage 1 the mind and heart don't yet know that the soul knows. The body knows a little but cannot articulate it yet without mind and heart knowing.

Stage 2 • Conscious Incompetence

Mind-knowing comes sharply online and heart-knowing (aka emotional intelligence) awakens.

Stage 3 • Conscious Competence

Learning plus practice turns mind-knowing into higher body-knowing, as heart-knowing continues to flourish.

Stage 4 • Unconscious Competence

All knowing lives in the body, with greater heart-knowing. But the mind begins to "forget" what the soul/body/heart know.

Re-defining Branding, masterclass and Masterpiece

4-Stages-Adult-Learning-Definition-Branding

Branding is seeing and making your identity conscious to yourself again.

4-Stages-Adult-Learning-Definition-Masterclass

A masterclass is seeing and making your wisdom conscious to yourself again, plus transmitting that wisdom.

4-Stages-Adult-Learning-Definition-Masterpiece

A masterpiece, your life's work, is seeing and making your wisdom plus your wounds conscious to yourself again, plus transmitting that integrated wisdom. You can't do it all simultaneously, but you can do it one nano-reinvention after another sequentially.

The Reinvention Carousel Options

Whether you're reinventing a creative process, identity, brand, business, career or lifestyle, you'll encounter 16 options on the Reinvention Carousel.

Each option carries high or low levels of: success, suffering, joy and fear. Which one will you choose? ⤵︎

DEFINITION

REINVENTION = Unlearning + Relearning + Reclaiming all that was lost + Rebuilding new ways of being/doing

Option 1 • Prep Leap

Reinvention-Carousel-01-Prep Leap

Prepare, train, then take a running leap. Yes, there will be fear before and during, but weeeeee oh so fun! Consciously choosing this option minimizes suffering and sets up a successful landing.

Seeking alternate Options? You can...

DECREASE FEAR ↘️   DECREASE JOY ↘️   INCREASE SUFFERING ↗️

Option 2 • Resistance

Reinvention-Carousel-02-Resistance

You can resist and fight the change. Waiting for THE shoe to drop only amplifies fear and prolongs suffering. No weeeeee and no successful landing. C'mon, you know The Universe will intervene.

Seeking alternate Options? You can...

DECREASE SUFFERING ↘️   INCREASE SUCCESS ↗️   INCREASE JOY ↗️

Option 3 • Surrender

Reinvention-Carousel-03-Surrender

Option 3 is terrifying, to be sure. Zero fun to be had. But if you consciously and cleanly rip off the band-aid, you can minimize suffering. You will land gracefully, you just don’t know it yet.

Seeking alternate Options? You can...

DECREASE FEAR ↘️   INCREASE JOY ↗️   INCREASE SUFFERING ↗️

Option 4 • Fantasy

Reinvention-Carousel-04-Fantasy

Option 4 definitely has the weeeeee fun factor. What started as a dreamy adventure turns to fear as the fantasy balloons pop. You end up in the jaws of cultural indoctrination and/or others' expectations.

Seeking alternate Options? You can...

DECREASE SUFFERING ↘️   INCREASE SUCCESS ↗️   DECREASE FEAR ↘️

Option 5 • Flow

Reinvention-Carousel-05-Flow

Option 5 requires you to climb some stairs to enter the Flow Zone. It'll be well worth it to land successfully via peace (low fear) and ease (low suffering). You get to enjoy the ride to boot! Compared to Option 1 • Prep Leap, there's a heckuva lot less fear.

Seeking alternate Options? You can...

DECREASE JOY ↘️   INCREASE SUFFERING ↗️   INCREASE FEAR ↗️

Option 6 • Refusal

Reinvention-Carousel-06-Refusal

Option 6 has you running for dear life and in the wrong direction. While fear fuels speed, speed numbs out suffering... and joy. “Get back here!” is the order of the day. Compared to Option 2 • Resistance, there’s less suffering, but only temporarily until you run out of fuel.

Seeking alternate Options? You can...

DECREASE FEAR ↘️   INCREASE JOY ↗️   INCREASE SUCCESS ↗️

Option 7 • Drag

Reinvention-Carousel-07-Drag

Option 7 is slow and steady with safety gear. But when dragging the past along, the descent is filled with hypervigilant fear and suffering. No fun to be had. You will land if you drop the croc. Compared to Option 3 • Surrender, living in the past only prolongs your own suffering.

Seeking alternate Options? You can...

DECREASE SUFFERING ↘️   INCREASE JOY ↗️   DECREASE FEAR ↘️

Option 8 • Insanity

Reinvention-Carousel-08-Insanity

Option 8 seeks a joy ride, while learning serpent charming for the first time. The descent will be with jumbled in fear and suffering. It's as crazy/dumb as "leap and build your wings on the way down." Compared to Option 4 • Fantasy, at least your landing field is clear.

Seeking alternate Options? You can...

DECREASE SUFFERING ↘️   DECREASE FEAR ↘️   DECREASE JOY ↘️

Option 9 • Pacing

Reinvention-Carousel-09-Pacing

Option 9 is meh in the fun category. But it gets the job done, with minimal fear. It's not particularly difficult, so low suffering... unless you have an impatience attack. Compared to Option 5 • Flow, it’s dull as f*ck.

Seeking alternate Options? You can...

INCREASE JOY ↗️   INCREASE FEAR ↗️   INCREASE SUFFERING ↗️

Option 10 • Repetition Compulsion

Reinvention-Carousel-10-Compulsion

Option 10 takes you on a joy ride. The plunge is scary every time. But sitting there isn't hard, so low suffering. You just go round and round… never arriving at the finish line. Compared to Option 6 • Refusal, at least you get some fun, or rather illusion of fun out of it.

Seeking alternate Options? You can...

INCREASE SUCCESS ↗️   DECREASE FEAR ↘️   DECREASE JOY ↘️

Option 11 • Skyholding

Reinvention-Carousel-11-Skyholding

Option 11 gets you there, fearlessly and even confidently. You so got this. But you suffer and bare the load of everyone else's sky. It’s zero fun, yet you can't ditch the boulder. Compared to Option 7 • Drag, at least there’s no live croc chomping at your resentful ass.

Seeking alternate Options? You can...

DECREASE SUFFERING ↘️   INCREASE JOY ↗️   INCREASE FEAR ↗️

Option 12 • Mad Genius

Reinvention-Carousel-12-Mad Genius

Option 12 is all about the joy of tinkering and satiating curiosity. You’re so busy grinding/suffering that there's not room for fear. And with one degree corrections, you eventually arrive at your destination. Compared to Option 8 • Insanity, you spared yourself from a deadly serpent. (Lest not forget that Marie Curie died from radioactive exposure.)

Seeking alternate Options? You can...

DECREASE SUFFERING ↘️   DECREASE JOY ↘️   INCREASE FEAR ↗️

Option 13 • Busyness

Reinvention-Carousel-13-Busyness

Option 13 will get you nowhere fast. It does, however, give you the illusion of control (low suffering) and worthiness/safety (low fear). But gnawing on your rear end can’t possibly be fun. Compared to Option 9 • Pacing, the tortoise really does win the race.

Seeking alternate Options? You can...

INCREASE JOY ↗️   INCREASE SUCCESS ↗️   INCREASE SUFFERING ↗️

Option 14 • Hedonism

Reinvention-Carousel-14-Hedonism

Option 14 maximizes your fun so you can eat it too! It's a pain-free, fear-free approach. You may stuff your belly, but you'll never land in true fulfillment. Compared to Option 10 • Repetition Compulsion, it’s a good, good life… until existential depression sets in.

Seeking alternate Options? You can...

INCREASE SUCCESS ↗️   DECREASE JOY ↘️   INCREASE FEAR ↗️

Option 15 • Resignation

Reinvention-Carousel-15-Resignation

Option 15 has you secretly haul your genius to the grave, bleak! There's not joy, only tremendous suffering from regret... which paradoxically drowns out the fear. Compared to Option 11 • Skyholding, you might as well carry your genius-boulder down the hill, rather than burying it.

Seeking alternate Options? You can...

DECREASE SUFFERING ↘️   INCREASE SUCCESS ↗️   INCREASE JOY ↗️

Option 16 • Negligence

Reinvention-Carousel-16-Negligence

Option 16 starts out all in, head first, big fun, blindsiding danger and repressing fear. But the impact on landing, ouf, won't be pretty. Compared to Option 12 • Mad Genius, sticks and stones may not break your bones, but this will. (Option 16 is often born from "neglect trauma.")

Seeking alternate Options? You can...

DECREASE SUFFERING ↘️   INCREASE SUCCESS ↗️   DECREASE JOY ↘️

Being an itty-bitty human in charge of actualizing the soul's giant cosmic calling is a wild, wild ride! 🙈🙉🙊 Chose wisely 😘
